Grief is never easy to get over, especially when grieving the loss of a loved one. Even when the years go by it always seems as if those feelings come back around from time to time due to holidays, birthdays, pictures etc. There are many ways people deal with those feelings, as for MeRCY, he tends to describe them using the gift of music.

For his final release of 2023, MeRCY delivers a powerful video/song with “Dad’s Drawing Pad” dedicated to his father who passed away a few years back. Jimmy Nguyen puts together a scrapbook like visual filled with nothing but good memories as its simple ness really pays homage to the late Anthony Hall. MeRCY says “this is probably the most important and most personal record I ever wrote” as he crafts the song together perfectly choosing some beautiful production from Lebanon Don to be the backbone of the track while P. Hall is featured on the chorus. The artist takes you on a journey of emotions as he describes the type of man his father was and the relationship they both had with one another. He credits his father for introducing him to many things saying “My dad was a huge influence in my life and my relationship with the higher power. He possessed so much knowledge with his views and perspectives in life, art and music. It’s almost as if he was a prophet to me”.

In the words of the late Mac Miller, “music is a beautiful thing”, and what MeRCY chose to do with this record was beautiful & powerful as he uses his talent to show off the wonderful human being his father was. “Dad’s Drawing Pad” will be featured on the album Michaelangelo set to release in 2024.

RIP Anthony ‘Alphonso’ Hall

They say that music is a gateway for letting out how one feels, so what better way to tell the world & you how I feel. You opened the doors to the creative within me. You shared your love for art with me and that ultimately unlocked the love I had. Our passion with art may have been through different strokes, but when we both laid our heads down at night it was ultimately the same. You expressed yourself through drawings, I express myself through a mic. This song is dedicated to the man who helped shape the person I am today, life is art and you’re forever in your drawing pad…

…this for my dad” – MeRCY
