Ahhhh take me back, take me back. Today we continue our Throwback Thursday series with the 10th anniversary of the Zero Heroes mixtape from the one and only XV. The artist from the middle of the map really brought us a classic mixtape with the release of Zero Heroes, as this was my first time hearing music from XV. What caught my attention early on while scrolling through LiveMixtapes was the artwork. The artwork to me was just different, full of icons and that was awesome. The project had 15 total tracks, with two of those being interludes, and had ton of great production. Seven, Just Blaze, J. Cole and Omen are just a few names who had worked on the mixtape with XV, not including features from Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, CyHi The Prynce and more. Zero Heroes has a star studded lineup from start to finish. XV really showed me as a young kid that anything was possible, even if you are feeling any type of way on any day. He really showed me that a kid from a small town in New Mexico could reach for something higher than what was being presented to him. This beautiful set of sounds always takes me back to the blog era days, to my days in high school bumping an artist nobody knew of. I took pride in that because I knew XV was going to be bigger than this tape itself. So many classics on one mixtape should be illegal, but I’m glad its not. Huge shoutout to XV for creating timeless music, I hope to hear more from the artist as the year continues. For now bump Zero Heroes on its 10 year anniversary.
