Be Known interviews New Jersey artist Marty Rantzen

Tian: First & foremost I appreciate your time and interest in setting up an interview with us. Can you give us info on who Marty Rantzen is as an artist?

Marty Rantzen: Marty the artist is me the person. I would say I am a man of many faces and every face I possess comes out some way in my music but, overall there’s no difference between the artist and the person it’s all just me I’m art. I make music about my life, my reality, my story and I do my best to execute expressing of all it.

Tian: Where are you originally from & where are you living now? How old are you?

Marty Rantzen: I’m originally from the northern part of New Jersey, the city of Orange to be exact. I live in Burlington, NJ currently and I’m 23 years old.

Tian: What made you want to pursue creating music? How old were you when you decided to?

Marty Rantzen: I actually don’t know or can recall the exact moment that made me want to create music. I think I always had a genuine love and passion for music. It always basketball and music that did it for me. Members of my family tell me stories all the time about how I would try to rap and sing along with the tv as a child. I do know the exact moment I was going to be an MC though or really decided. I was 5 years old. Growing up being a fan you had to pick a side at times like Nas or JAY-Z, 50 Cent or Ja Rule. In this scenario, it was Lil’ Bow Wow or Lil’ Romeo. I was honestly a huge fan and admired both. I would switch who my favorite was from time to time but, when the Romeo sitcom came out it was definitely Romeo at the time. I wrote my first rap ever the same night the show premiered. It was a Lil’ Bow Wow diss. I don’t know why but I felt like they needed ghostwriters or help to diss each other so I hired myself.

Tian: You made your first appearance on Be Known with your single “Adobo”, what was the creative idea behind this song?

Marty Rantzen: It was just a song pointing to a specific time earlier in my life talking about how I came up. I was with my boys every other day linking up. We all had our ways of getting to the money. We all did our own thing but, I witnessed my boys create a new lane and after watching them do it I thought fuck it, I’m going to get me some of that money too. I wasn’t bout to leave no money on the table but, In order to take advantage of that opportunity, I had to become ruthless in a way. Cutting corners is dishonest on top of an already dishonest living if you catch my drift but, in the end, you wanna come up or not? You know, that type of dilemma.

Tian: Did this song stand out from other unreleased tracks? Why did you choose “Adobo” to be your single?

Marty Rantzen: To me personally no, but to other people, yes and it stood out to a person whose opinion I heavily value. I never quite chose to release Adobo it wasn’t my first pick but, at the same time, I didn’t mind dropping it either so ultimately that’s how “Adobo” ended up being chosen.

Tian: “Adobo” is an uptempo, aggressive track. What was the energy like in the studio when recording the song? Did it match the energy of the song?

Marty Rantzen: The energy was exciting. Sometimes I get so excited that I almost feel I’m too turned up. I damn near be shaking in front of the mic I be having to calm myself down but remind myself to hold back but, it’s like hey you’re excited and it’s screwing with how you’re delivering it cause you’re moving too damn much.

Tian: When I first heard the single, I said you reminded me of Denzel Curry. Have you been compared to him before? Or been compared to any other artist?

Marty Rantzen: Hell no! Not ever in my life. I don’t know how to take it cause it’s me and I don’t see any similarities at all so, it’s like what the hell do you see but, he’s a fucking beast so that’s dope. I have been compared to Drake, I’ve had people say I’m like an east coast ScHoolboy Q. I’ve gotten A$AP Rocky, Retch, I have also gotten Kirko Bangz earlier in my life.

Tian: I understand you have a visual you are gearing up to release for “Adobo” can you give any info on what the visual will be like? A possible release date?

Marty Rantzen: It’s going to be like the lyrics in visual form. I’m on race street.  I’m with Brizy and Haze. You know, just real life. Life is different for all of us now but, I hoped to take the viewer as far as I could possibly go. A visual peek into the tale of Adobo but, keep it G rated without trying to get indicted.

Tian: Any upcoming projects we need to be on the look out for? What’s next for Marty Rantzen?

Marty Rantzen: YES! A whole lot of them! I have been sitting on a very introspective project called “Ultra” for some time now, just been waiting for the opportunity to hand it over to the world but, I need the world on notice before I give so much of myself away. It is by far my most personal body of work. I also have “Devil Jin” in the tuck but, we’ll see what happens next.

Huge shoutout to Marty for letting us get to know more about him and his craft.
