“I don’t really care what kind of songs I make or what genre they end up being. I was told once that ‘my style is having no style,’ and to some degree that’s true. I just want to make good songs, who cares what they sound like.”
Bay Area artist, Casey Cope, keeps true to himself and the statement above in his latest album For Now. The album weighs in at 7 tracks and is entirely produced by Cope and collaborator Big Soda. The latest set of sounds finds Casey living life in the moment, reminding himself that good and bad times won’t last forever, but simply are around “for now”. The album was backed by the banger “Back Up” which brings a different feel compared to the rest of the album, but that isn’t a bad thing. Again, the artist is making what he feels are good songs, not caring what they sound like at the end of the day. The entire album reminds me of some of Chance The Rapper’s older work, like 10 Day and Acid Rap. Smooth and laid back is what you can call the entire project, but something you’ll find yourself playing on repeat due to the rhymes and production Casey Cope provides. For Now is an album that is easy to like and enjoy because of how genuine the artist comes off as. Being himself, no care in the world because everything that happens for now, in this moment, is for him. Stream below.
